This programme has been specifically designed to target the stages of development of 7 to 9-year olds. This curriculum includes years of research and development proven effective for this age group. Our goal is to maximise the effectiveness of each students training with valuable lessons that will enhance their life.
Theses children are introduced to our Character 1st programme. It has 9 different parts to it, and the first three are PRINCIPLES, ATTITUDE and BELIEF. We call these three our fundamental life skills. Do we try to get a three year old to spell PRINCIPLES, of course not. You may even say they will have no idea what the word means. Well, through our unique teaching system, they will know what the "concept" of principles is from the very first lesson. It is NEVER to early to help children realise that life is built on principles (natural laws)
In our Programme, your child will train in an environment that is just right for them. They will train with other children in their age group, and not have to be limited or overwhelmed by younger and older children. Each class will accommodate every student’s skills and abilities in a way that is not overly demanding or intimidating. That means more age-specific instruction with better results. We guarantee it!
It is not what you are trying to teach the kids, it is HOW you teach it. If you go to any martial arts school in the UK, I can guarantee that a front kick will be taught. How it is taught though, can differ incredibly. In our school we pay so much attention to "how" we teach things. The programme The Six Qualities Of A Champion is used in every lesson to help students learn the move. These six qualities are Focus, Technique, Power, Speed, Intensity and Outstanding. The kids LOVE it. Instead of just learning a move, they are learning how to become a champion. BUT!!! The main reason we teach like this is because this method of teaching can be used for anything else! For school work, chores around the home, IT CAN BE USED! Parents LOVE IT!!
I have been teaching for over 30 years, and I have been lucky enough to have martial arts in my life. It starts and ends with respect. You may have a very respectful child, but believe me when I say this programme will help immensely. Two things control us more than anything else in this world, our own thoughts, and who we surround ourselves with. Both of these are addressed at KiCX. This age learn mostly by examples. They will see how the instructors interact with each other, with other student and parents. Respect and courtesy starts in every class with the martial arts bow. You will hear the instructors using surnames, addressing people with Sir, or Miss. A culture that the children will gravitate towards.
Chief Master Stephen Thompson is an educator, author, businessman, owner and the driving force behind National Black Belt Schools. With the help of his wife Karen and good friend Master Everton Smith, they have helped the lives of literally thousands of people.
SO HOW DID ALL THIS START?
Master T started training back in 1979 at 10 years old. Back then he was the youngest member of the school. Martial Arts in the seventies had not really been taught to children in the UK. By the age of 15 he was the youngest person to ever achieve the rank of Black Belt in the UK, and was named student of the year in an organisation with over 2000 students in.
He loved competing, and won many National tournaments. In 1988 he started his own martial art club called Buki, and has been teaching ever since. His first major total was when he was selected to fight in the British Kickboxing Championships being held in London. He went on to win that competition. With this victory, he was selected to fight for England in Madrid to fight in the Kickboxing European Championships. At the end of the three day event, he was the new European Champion, beating the current World Champion in the final!
FULL TIME MARTIAL ART CENTRES
He opened the first full time martial arts centre in Gloucester back in 1992. Full time centres were common place in the USA, but in the UK, very few existed. Even though Master T was trained as a carpenter, he new that he wanted to be a martial arts instructor. So the first martial arts full time centre was born, called Gloucester Martial Arts Centre. From this day, Master T has always owned full time martial art centres.
In 1992 he travelled to Italy to compete in the World Karate Championships. He won THREE Gold medals. His weight class, an open weight class and was team captain in the team fighting event.
He went on to win World Karate titles in 1994 (Argentina), 1996 (Canada) and 1998 (USA). He then retired from competing.
He has opened up full time martial art centres in Cheltenham, Tewkesbury and Worcester. For many years he managed martial art full time centres. His instructors then purchased the schools, and Master T formed his own school called Kicx.
He runs his own private martial arts studio in a purpose built centre at his home in Churchdown, Gloucester. This site is over 3 acres, and was a dream of his many years ago. He consults other martial art schools around the country and has formed an organisation called National Black Belt Schools. His dream is to have over 10,000 students training in the NBBS. A goal that he is driving toward.
Now a Seventh Degree Master Black Belt in Wado Ryu Karate and Kickboxing, Master Thompson is an innovator of martial arts teaching, competition and Personal Development. His life skills programme Character 1st is a combination of over 30 years teaching martial arts, and helping parents bring out the best in their children.
His upbeat, dynamic powerhouse style of teaching is the reason why Kicx, and National Black Belt Schools goes from strength to strength.
He now only teaches small classes, using his classes as a platform for teaching on line around the world. If you are lucky enough to have a space in his private school, GRAB IT!!!
Karen has been fundamental in the growth of Kicx and NBBS.
She started training in martial arts back in 1995 and in 1999 she started in a relationship with Stephen and they were married back in 2003.
Martial Arts Training
She earned her Black belt in not just Kickboxing, but Wado Ryu Karate as well. She helped develop the children's programmes for our under six's with her knowledge of early years teaching practices, as she owned a child care facility.
Courses & Events
If you need any information on the special course's, parents night out etc, she is the one to see. She puts together events for families to have fun, and makes Kicx not just a martial arts school, but a martial arts family.
Refreshments / Cafe
Karen will also help you with any refreshments you may need when you are on site. The cafe sells Teas, Coffees, Cold Drinks and snacks. In the future we will also be offering a take out service with healthy meals. If you are a lover of "jerk" seasoning, you will have to try her special "Jamican Rice & Peas and Jerk Chicken" The taste of the Caribbean will be hitting Churchdown!
How long do lessons last for?
Every lesson is either 30 minutes or 45 minutes.
What is the difference between private one on one lessons and group classes?
My recommendation is always my small group classes to start with. The first lesson you have at the school will be part of the qualification to the school. This is where both parties will decide how to move forward. Private lessons may be best, or the small group classes may be best, or maybe we are not a good fit at all. Until you try a class, we will not know.
How often do students have to train?
This is up to you. Most students decide to train once a week, but if you want to train more, great. All students have access to an online membership which helps everyone learn at home. So if you are ill, or on holiday you will still have access to every lesson
Do I have to sign a contract?
The only contract we have is a one month cancellation policy. Not 12 or 24 months like some schools. We want you to train because you want to, not because you are in contract.
Can I pay per session?
No. I run a professional school where students book classes, and I know who is turning up, and who should be in class. If I allowed just "turn up when you want", I certainly could not help students like I want to. We have many different payment options, weekly, monthly, termly.
Do you have parking?
